Important Advice

The migration has been designed to be repeated without loss of data, in case some problem occurs.

Therefore the database of the source installation will be exported, imported into the new system and changed accordingly. This requires sufficient free disk space in the filesystem where the temporary files should be stored during migration (you will be asked for this location) and in the filesystem where the database should be imported to.

Please make sure that sufficient disk space is available, otherwise the migration will fail.

The procedure described here can not be transferred 1:1 to KIX Professional because it has additional components installed.

Migration from OTRS to KIX

You can easily switch from a classic OTRS to the new Service System KIX. Requirements are that

  • the OTRS system runs on OTRS 5
  • the OTRS system uses the same database management system as KIX
  • the following packages must be installed in your OTRS
    • FAQ
    • GeneralCatalog
    • ImportExport
    • ITSMCore
    • ITSMConfigurationManagement
    • ITSMIncidentProblemManagement

After that the administrator has only a few steps to execute. The migration itself will be performed automatically by an appropriate migration script (/opt/kix/scripts/migrate_otrs2kix.sh).

After installing KIX the concrete description of the migration steps and the following actions can be read in the file /opt/kix/MIGRATING_OTRS.md . Just follow the instructions.

Migration from KIX 2016 to KIX 2017

The Upgrade from KIX 2016 to KIX 2017 is also designed to be a migration between two major versions. This provides you with a quick fallback in case some problem occurs. You can easily switch from a KIX 2016 to the version KIX 2017. Requirements are that
